Our family (me, my husband and son) have been working with Sharone Sapir since August 2020. We were all home, adjusting to self-quarantine and realized that we needed some help to keep us focused on our healthy lifestyle. We were exercising regularly but our diet was a little more erratic. We were definitely snacking more on what Sharone called "processed food" - it was convenient and usually within an arms reach in the kitchen! We were also getting a lot of takeout from restaurants. I started working with Sharone when I was seeing numbers on the scale that I had only ever seen when I was 40 weeks pregnant. That also coincided with 2020, so my depression and anxiety were sky high. I felt horribly about myself, and the amount of weight I needed to lose was overwhelming and making other parts of my life difficult. I was so ashamed of my weight gain that I went out of my way to avoid being in photos and I now realize that what I really did was sacrifice documenting a year of memories with my kids. I had tried other diet plans in the past (WeightWatchers, Noom, intermittent fasting, heavily restrictive eating), and would lose weight but gain it (and then some) back. I knew those weren't going to work and that I needed more support and accountability. This is the first time I've had so much success with my weight loss, and I wouldn't call it a diet. Sharone helped me learn why I was reaching for foods that were not nutritious and pinpoint what was triggering my overeating and I never once felt shamed. We slowly made manageable changes to my diet that have enabled me to acknowledge my wants and feelings without neglecting my needs and goals. Since working with Sharone, I'm back at a weight that I haven't been at in years, feel healthier and more energetic than I have since my 20s, and recognize myself again. I'm eating more food and have learned to balance fun foods with nutritious food so I can enjoy life while still reaching my goals. I can’t overstate how fortunate I am to have found Sharone as my nutritionist. As an experienced dieter, I knew what needed to be done, yet lacked the motivation to carry through on necessary steps. When I hired Sharone, she took a thorough intake interview, and then laid out a simple but nutritionally sound plan, including regular contact by email and phone. The accountability was key to my success. She was able to convince me not to get discouraged when I felt like quitting. I had the pleasure of working with Sharone for 7 months and it was transformative for me. Both mentally and physically.

I knew the basics of what it meant to lose weight: burn more calories than you consume in a 24-hour period and do it consistently over time. Seems simple. But over the years, the diet industry had really gotten into my head so much that it was hard for me to really know what to do. The diet industry is constantly filling our heads with do's and don'ts, and almost none of it is evidence-based.

Sharone guided me in making sustainable lifestyle changes to better my health. With Sharone, I was able to learn the truth about how to eat and care for myself versus the dogmatic lies of diet culture.

One of the things that I appreciated about working with Sharone is that there was no shaming, ever. She was always supportive and guided me in understanding why I was extra hungry at times or why I made a choice that wasn't ideal.

Another great thing about working with Sharone is that while she was there to support me a hundred percent, she wasn't going to do the work for me. At one point I asked her to give me a meal plan. She responded to my request by explaining why she didn't feel like that was ideal and guided me into strategies to help myself eat better throughout the week. This was more empowering to me than any meal plan could ever hope to be. A meal plan will help you lose weight, strategies help you change your life.

There are too many weight loss programs out there that are highly structured. While people are able to be successful in these programs, once they end, people are often left feeling like they don't know how to manage a healthy lifestyle outside of these really rigid programs. And on another note, if it's really rigid, is it really good for our mental health?

Before working with Sharone, I felt really overwhelmed and I felt like it was not really possible for me to lose weight. After working with Sharone, I came to realize that managing my weight was actually quite easy and not nearly as challenging as I had thought.

I can now quickly discriminate between health claims that are just gimmicky advertising versus what is truly a healthy lifestyle choice.

I also felt comforted in the fact that no matter what Sharone and I were doing, my mental health was the biggest priority.

My biggest takeaway from this whole experience is that now I am empowered to take the best possible care of my body. I have completely transformed my relationship with food. I no longer feel shame. I am no longer gullible to trendy diets and products.

I lost about 46 lbs in the 7 months that I worked with Sharone. It's certainly nice to look better in my clothes, but my biggest takeaway from this experience is having better physical health, mental health, and having a fantastic relationship with food.

About Sharone

Hi, I’m Sharone. I spent most of my life struggling to make peace with food. On one hand, I love eating and my palette leans towards sweet and/or doughy. On the other hand, diabetes runs in my family, and I’ve always been concerned about my health. For years I tried swearing off “bad” foods only to find myself binging on them alone in the kitchen, late at night. I intrinsically knew that the various books and internet articles about nutrition I devoured were not putting me in a healthy place with food and myself. I attended the Masters program in Nutrition and Education at Columbia University, and that was the beginning of a whole new outlook. Since then, I have merged an evidence-based strategy to weight-loss with a personal and emotional one. My clients get a comprehensive approach to nutrition which takes into account lifestyle, food, and mindset.
